Yes Day

Released on Netflix on May 23, 2021

Runtime: 1 Hour and 29 Minutes

Rated PG

The story revolves around two parents that always tell their children “no” and learning that is it also good to remember to say “yes” sometimes. After a parent teacher conference the parents take the suggestion of a guidance counselor (who is not qualified it sounds like) to have a “yes day.” The parents lay some ground rules (leaving out some I would have made like not damaging or destroying anything) and give their kids one day that they will say yes to anything. Funny things then take place.

Themes:

Themes in the movie include being overbearing, parenting, family, trusting each other, responsibility, and children making decisions.

Language:

During the movie I heard some religious exclamations, the words wuss and sucks, name calling, and the mom says “big ask list” but it sounds like she said the other word for butt.

Stuff to be aware of:

A family twerks, two girls get invited into a tent with boys and one refuses, people at a concert drink/act high, a boy makes a movie about his mom and says it’s rated R for violence, adult language and nudity (however, none of those things are shown), some adults fight and end up in jail, and there are two ladies that are in a fight and one mentions spending their life savings on a fleet of ambulances (I assume they are hinting at them being lesbians). Lots of things get destroyed, but most everything works out in the end. There is a female EMT that talks about another female she lives with. My guess is the filmmakers wrote these two ladies to be in a relationship.

Overall:

It’s okay. I probably won’t watch it again. It had some funny moments and a good lesson for parents. Morale - have fun with your kids and say yes whenever you can.
