Izzy’s Kola World - Season 1
Season 1 is a fun, kid oriented documentary about a girl (11 years old) named Izzy who helps her parents run a koala rescue/sanctuary in Australia. There are 8 episodes in season one and each episode lasts around 14-18 minutes. Each episode has plenty of cute kolas and little fun, journal style drawings that pop up on screen.
Themes:
Family, animal rescues, animal hospitals, sickness, love, loss (animals being released back into the wild), endangered animals, foreign countries, and cultures.
Language:
I don’t recall any cursing or bad language. Malia (my 8 year old) and I had a conversation about phrases in other countries. They use some dialogue (nothing bad) and some words that we don’t use in the USA. It was fun to talk about expressions in other countries.
Stuff to be aware of:
This show was very clean. There are some sad parts when healthy koalas must be released back into the wild. You will see Izzy and her veterinarian mom clean up after the animals, give them medicine, and talk about illness. There are a type of ant on the island that bites the Koala’s on the face and other parts of their body. You see koalas that have been bit by them and some other injuries that koalas have faced. Nothing too graphic. One other thing my kids and I had a fun conversation about was wearing shoes. Izzy runs around barefoot a lot.
Overall:
My eight year old loved this show and I have to admit I enjoyed it too. It’s clean and has some good humor and messages. We are looking forward to season 2! If your child loves animals, they will get into this and the episodes are short. Educational and fun
