Ahsoka - Season 1

Stream on Disney+

Runtime: Eight 41-57 Minute Episodes

Rated TV-14

Following up after the events of Star Wars Rebels Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla, and Chopper (where is Zeb, I am a bit upset about this) are thrust into a team up with former Jedi Ahsoka Tano to locate their missing friend Ezra Bridger. Unfortunately, if Ezra can be found that also means Grand Admiral Thrawn can be found too. The race is on as Ashoka, Hera, and Sabine try to locate Ezra and Thrawn before two evil force welders can.

One thing to note, if you did not watch Star Wars Rebels you will likely be lost watching Ahsoka. There are also references and story points that come from the Clone Wars animated series. You could watch an “everything you need to know before watching Ahsoka” YouTube video, but you still probably could not enjoy this (and understand it all) if you didn’t watch at least Rebels. Dave Filoni, through the Mandalorian and Boba Fett, has been working leading up to this series. Those that watch Rebels and even Clone Wars will appreciate and likely enjoy Ahsoka much more.

Themes:

Trust, friendship, masters and apprentices, good vs evil, finding those who are lost, history, war, a person’s past and who it effects them, government, doing the right thing against all odds, doing the right thing even it it gets you in trouble, aliens, starships, loyalty, and bravery.

Language:

None.

Stuff to be aware of:

Typical Star Wars fight scenes with lightsaber battles and blaster fire. There were four fighting situations that I do want to mention. During a lightsaber duel one person gets stabbed through the chest with the saber coming out the other side. Another battle a light saber takes off the head of a helmeted soldier. The helmet, with the head inside, rolls across the floor. There is a scene from a Clone Wars battle with lots of fun fire and clone troopers dying. In the last episode there are zombie like storm troopers that cannot be killed. You don’t see their faces (except part of a jaw of one that is missing part of it’s helmet), but some of them get cut up by lightsabers. None of these scenes had blood and aren’t more intense than oher Star Wars shows.

Overall:

The first couple of episodes were a bit slow and heavy on exposition. My guess is the writers were trying to help those that didn’t watch Rebels understand what was going on and what was at stake. After getting past the find and make the map work MacGuffin things got more exciting. I liked it. Is it as good as Rebels? Maybe not, but Rebels had four seasons of shows and didn’t have to catch people up in the first few episodes.

I loved getting to see things from Rebels and Clone Wars in live action. Loth-cats, the world between worlds, the blade of Talzin, the Nightsisters of Dathomir, statues of the Mortis gods, and so many other great lore continuity made the episodes very exciting. Seeing live action versions of Hera, Sabine, Chopper, and Thrawn was neat. When Thrawn finally showed up it seemed a bit underwhelming, but he was the same Thrawn from Rebels in every way. Also, some of those surprise guest appearances were cool.

I liked and enjoyed it. I am excited to see where this story leads us next.
