Stuff to be aware of:
Grossness - Within the first few minutes a man is tied up and you see the shadow of his head being chopped off and it falls in a bucket. There is a brain surgery scene and a bullet is lifted out of a man’s head. After a car crash Dr. Strange is seen in the hospital and has tons of bruises and scars. His hands are seen in stainless steel braces going into his skin and parts are sewn up. Dr. Strange gets a wound sewed up and you’ll briefly see the needle and the thread going into his skin. At the end of the movie Dr. Strange has multiple bleeding cuts on his face.
Scary - In the beginning of the film hooded figures are seen breaking into a place. There is an intense car crash where Dr. Strange flips his car multiple times. There is a psychedelic scene in which Dr. Strange is shown more than he can process and it gets pretty intense. Once scene shows hands coming from everywhere in the scene. Then small hands grow out of Dr. Strange’s fingers and then hands grow out of those. A scary face is also seen.
The bad guys cast a spell that makes the skin around their eyes look burnt and chipped. Dormammu, at the end of the movie is pretty scary.
Sexual - Dr. Strange asks a woman if she is sleeping with a man. Dr. Strange is seen without his shirt on breifly.
Violence - There is plenty of Marvel style fighting so I will only reference things that are more intense than that.
Within the first few minutes a man is tied up and you see the shadow of his head being chopped off and it falls in a bucket. The Master of the New York Sanctum gets stabbed by a mystical blade.
Dr. Strange gets stabbed from behind and his blood drips to the floor. He is then put in an operating room. You see the wound and the doctor working on him has a huge syringe and puts it in his chest. In a time loop at the end of the movie Dr. Strange is killed multiple times. Some are a little more gruesome than others like being impaled. The bad guys in the end disintegrate and turn into ashes at the end of the movie.
Overall:
Seeing It With Your Family
The most intense parts of the movie is Dormammu and his followers that have dark, gross patches around their eyes. The cursing in minimal and there is far less sexual innuendo than the movies with Iron Man in them.
What I Thought
This origin story was just crazy enough to work after some origin movies fatigue. It’s a classic and Benedict Cumberbatch gave us the Dr. Strange we deserved.
