Dr. Selvig, still controlled by Loki, unlocks the power of the Tesseract which allows Loki to travel to earth. After Loki wrecks S.H.I.E.L.D. he takes the Tesseract and begins a plan to bring an alien army to earth. This leads Nick Fury to reinstating the Avengers Initiative. Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye must come together to save the world.

Stuff to be aware of:

Grossness - Loki removes a person’s eye. This is not seen, but the man yells and a gross sound is heard. You can see the man’s legs kicking. An eye is then processed in a virtual way in another place. In the final battle multiple heroes have blood on their faces. Iron Man flies into the mouth of a huge alien and out the other end.

Scary - Loki touches people’s chest and their eyes turn black. He then can control them. A helicopter goes does and explodes. The Chitauri are the army that the Avengers fight in this. She are freaky looking and have an extra finger on their hands. They also talk in a scary voice. The first time Bruce Banner becomes Hulk it is intense. He chases Black Widow through the Helicarrier. In the final battle

Sexual - Black Widow is being integrated in a scene and wears a very revealing top. She jumps around and fights several people. Tony Stark makes a joke about Pepper asking her mom if Pepper can “bunk over.” Bruce Banner wakes up naked after hulking out. His bare chest and legs are seen, but nothing more.

Violence - In the first few minutes of the film Loki kills multime people by shooting them with his staff and disintegrating them and throwing knives at them. Nick Fury gets knife to his side and pulls it out. Nothing more gruesome than the MCU movies that led up to this one. Maria Hill gets thrown by an explosion and she ends up with blood on her head. One bad guy gets thrown off the helicarrier.

Hawkeye and Black Widow get into a fist fight that is pretty intense. Loki stabs Phil Coulson in the back and his scepter can be see sticking out of his chest. Coulson doesn’t die immediately, but talks to Loki and has some blood dripping from his mouth. Coulson then briefly talks to Nick Fury before passing away. Thor gets dropped out of the Helicarrier in a glass prison.

There is an interrogation scene in which a woman is tied to a chair and a man looks at torture tools. No one gets tortured, but it is discussed. Loki removes a person’s eye. This is not seen, but the man yells and a gross sound is heard. You can see the man’s legs kicking. An eye is then processed in a virtual way in another place. Hawkeye shoots and alien in the head and the arrow can be seen sticking out. Multiple aliens get stabbed, shocked, and shot. A big monster gets blown up and sludge goes everywhere.

Other - Tony Stark makes a joke about a big bag of weed keeping Bruce Banner from hulking out. Bruce Banner briefly talks about how he tried to shoot himself and Hulk spit the bullet out. There are a few scenes with people drinking.

Overall:

Seeing It With Your Family

If you have watched the movies that led up to this one with your family, you probably won’t find too much more violence or intense scenes. A majority of the cursing happens around the last 1/3 of the movie. The Chitauri are scary looking aliens.

What I Thought

The movie that created cinematic universes and forever changed the way Hollywood thinks about super heroes. It still holds up after all these years. A great first Avengers movie and an epic conclusion to Phase 1 of the MCU.
