Spectacular Spider-man - Seasons 1 & 2

Released on Disney+ on October 19, 2022

Runtime: Twenty Six 22-23 Minute Episodes

Rated TV-Y7

Originally airing from 2008-2009 this series took a new (and fresh) look at the Marvel’s webslinger. It skippied the origin story, since everyone was familiar with it by this time, and dropped us straight into Peter starting the school year after a summer spent learning about his new powers and responsibility. See what I did there? Trying to balance high school, an internship, taking photos for the Daily Bugle, and being Spider-man is going to prove to be quite the task. Little does he know there are lots of evil things taking place in the shadows that will absorb him into a world of criminals, super powered villains, and high tech gadgets.

Themes:

Trust, friendship, making good choices, science, how far is too far, experimenting on oneself, good vs evil, change, love, age differences, burglary, revenge, the mob, hitmen, con artists, high school, addiction, web slinging, bullying, symbiotes, genetically engineered, and spiders.

Language:

Some characters use the phrase, “what/how the heck?” There is also name calling such as: puny Parker, stupid, ect.

Stuff to be aware of:

There are some unique things to be aware of in this series, outside of the normal every super hero cartoon action. There isare plenty of fights, car chases, and explosions. Some of the unique things are that there are failed experiments on people, when Curt Conners turns into the Lizard it is.little intense. There are numerous scenes where a boy drinks a liquid out of a vial. It is known he stole it from a laboratory. The word addiction is never used, but it is implied. The serum makes him stronger and faster. When Flint Marko is turned into Sandman he explodes and turns into sand.

There are some relationship and crush themes throughout the show. There is a dance in which Peter asked a grown woman (4 years older than him) to his high school formal. There are also some kissing scenes and flirting.

Overall:

Saldy, this show only got two seasons due to Marvel being bought our by Disney. In my opinion this was the best Spider-Man animated show to ever release. It was a different and creative that way they told the story. Spider-man would a lot of times beat villains by using his brain. He would outsmart them or use science to stop them. I also loved how the writers were using each season as a season in that universe. If the show would have kept going it would have taken us through a school year of Peter’s life. I really enjoyed this one and have used it to introduce my daughters to Spider-man.
