Unfortunately, the Fangs of Dang do not make this easy for the Igby family. The Fangs are on a hunt to find the jewels of Anniera for the master Gnag the Nameless one. Little do the Igby children know their past that connects them to the jewels is going to make them Gnag and the Fang’s greatest enemy.
Reading Audience:
I would say anyone six years or older can really enjoy listening to this one. Reading wise, I would guess middle school aged. We read this series out loud as a family and my nine and eleven year old loved them.
Stuff to be aware of:
There is fantasy fighting in this book. Swords, shields, bows, and other medieval weapons are used for battles. Characters, good and bad, get stabbed, shot, and killed. None of this is overly gruesome. When a Fang dies it becomes like dust. There is no bad language, but some minor name calling does happen. The Fangs come from Dang. This isn’t a bad word in the book, just a place.
Overall:
I still remember the feeling I got watching Star Wars the first time as a child. The excitement of being taken to a land completely foreign to what I knew. The thrill of aliens, the magic of the force, learning that Vader was Luke’s father, the further twist of Leia being his sister. It was amazing. l loved it. I’ve not felt that way about any other world from any movie or book, until now.
This series makes me feel that way again. This by far is one of my favorite book series and one of my favorite fantasy settings. It’s clean and there isn’t anything bad in it. It can get dark, but there is nothing gruesome. It’s a book I looked forward to reading and discussing with my children and have enjoyed doing just that. I can’t recommend this series enough. This is epci The Lord of The Rings series for our children’s time.
