The Fabled Stables: Willa the Wisp
A boy named Auggie is the caretaker for all the magical animals and beasts in the Fabled Stables. He has a living magical stick named Fen that turns into various tools that help him perform tasks that go along with his job at the stables. The first book sees Auggie helping a wisp named Willa escape a group of hunters and join the stables. This series has some characters and places that are also in Auxier’s Peter Nimble series, but you do not have to read those to read these. They are just neat Easter Eggs.
Reading Audience:
This is a short, easy to read chapter book. I would say the reading level is about 2nd - 4th grade. Each page has amazing art work and the chapters are short.
Stuff to be aware of:
Nothing really scary (outside a giant spider that helps Auggie) and nothing bad.
Overall:
The girls and I have started reading this book series (there are currently three out). Jonathon Auxier has become one of my favorite authors (He wrote Sweep: a Girl and Her Monster & The Night Gardner). This is a fun read that you could do out loud in one longer sitting or break it up over several. It’s a fun story that I think I enjoyed as much as the girls (2nd and 4th grade). Some morals I think you could take from the story are bravery, friendship, standing up for others, helping others, and serving others.
