Nerdy Birdy
Nerdy Birdy is a little different than your average cool birds. His wings are small and he wears huge glasses. Where other birds like to hunt, fish, sing, and soar he loves reading, playing video games, reading about video games, and playing World of Wormcraft. Unfortunately, this gets him picked on by the cool birds. Join Nerdy Birdy on a journey to find friends like himself, while also discovering the joy that comes with having friends that are different than oneself.
Reading Audience:
Three to eight year olds will enjoy this one, but I really liked it as an adult.
Stuff to be aware of:
Nerdy Birdy gets picked on and called things such as “nerd” and “bookworm.” One character is a vulture and attention is called to the fact that she “eats dead things.”
Overall:
My youngest daughter loved this book growing up and I have to admit I enjoyed reading it to her. It teaches some good lessons about how we should treat people who are different than us with respect and kindness. There are also some fun pop culture memes in the book like the World of Wormcraft and Hello Birdy Lunch Boxes. Overall, this is a great one for any child’s bedtime stories library.
