Azul
Game: Azul Board Game Genre: Strategy Tile Collection and Placement
Age: Suggestion is 8+. My ten and twelve year old enjoyed playing it and understood it.
Number of players: 2-4
Time: 30-45 minutes
Difficulty: Sounds more difficult when you are explaining it than it really it. After a few turns it should be easy to pick up. Reading: None
About the Game:
Create beautiful mosaics as you try to secure the tiles you need to fulfill your board without picking up too many of the same patterned tiles. Each turn you will choose from unclaimed tiles to add to your board. After securing enough of the same pattern you will add a tile to your mosaic. Players earn points for placing a new tile on their mosaic, but more points if the tile is touching other tiles and/or are in a row vertically or horizontally with multiple tiles.
Replay Value:
High, we have played it multiple times in the same weekend before. This is one of those games you can get better at after a few games because there is some skill and logic to it. It is also pretty and “crafty” looking which makes it appeal to sense of sight more than some games.
My Thoughts:
I have really enjoyed this game with my wife, who doesn’t care for games with tons of rules or that take forever enjoys it. This one doesn’t take too long and the rules are simple. My ten year old has played it with us and had fun. This is one of those “cozy up by a fire on a cold winter’s day” type games. It is slow paced and while it has depth to it, you don’t have to do anything fast or have quick reflexes. It is cozy and good for winding down after a long day like pjs, hot chocolate, and a raging fire.
