Six shorts (about 7 minutes each) focusing on different side characters from the Zootopia movie. Each short takes place during a scene from the movie. Judy’s parents, bride-to-be Fru Fru, Duke the weasel, Mr. Big, Clawhauser with Chief Bogo, and Flash all get a short time to show you a little more of their life and aspirations. Judy and Nick are merely side or background characters this time around.

Themes:

Themes in the show include parents, family, love, weddings, dance competitions, stealing, money, the mafia, dating, believing in oneself, nudist colonies, being yourself, love, con artists, reality shows, the black market, organ trafficking, and friendship.

Language:

The language is about the same as the movies. There are several religious exclamations like, “Oh my God” and “For God’s sake…” and some minor name calling. There are a few adult jokes that will go over kid’s heads, such as Chief Bogo saying, “it’s finally good to come out of the closet” when he is referring to people knowing he likes music from the pop singer Gazelle.

Stuff to be aware of:

An old goat is run over crossing the road, but is okay after. The mafia is back, and they “ice people” like in the original movie. Several characters throughout the show drink what looks like champagne. The Duke the Musical episode has the weasel singing about money and con jobs such as organ trafficking for laughs. The So You Think You Can Prance episode has Chief Bogo and Clawhauser dressed in make up, glitter, and tight costumes and dancing together. There is a passing reference made about “coming out of the closet,” that I mention in the language section. It is not a reference to him being gay, but to him liking a certain type of music. The nudist colony returns, but only for a brief second and a character says that they saw the “only part of a sheep without wool.”

Overall:

My kids and I enjoyed the Cars on the Road shorts better, however my kids didn’t really like Zootopia much. In my opinion the best episodes are God Father of the Bride and Dinner Rush. It is neat that they chose to do these shorts within the story of the movie, but the show itself is just okay. The movie is a lot better. If you absolutely love the movie these are worth a watch, if not you won’t miss anything. If you want the best watch Dinner Rush and call it quits.
