Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi

Stream on Disney+

Episode: 6 Episodes (Around 13-19 minutes each)

Rated TV-PG

Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi is the latest Star Wars animation offering from Dave Filoni (who continues to prove he is the new George Lucas and maybe even better). This series tells two stories over six short, twelve minute episodes. The two stories give us insight into some of parts of Ashoka Tano and Count Dooku’s lives.

Themes:

Themes in the show include courage, death, doing what is right no matter what, corruption, betrayal, good vs. evil, politics, leadership, good people can be corrupted, family, hard work, not giving up, training, trust, failure, and others.

Language:

There was no bad language that I recall.

Stuff to be aware of:

It is animated, but there is some violence and deaths. Characters are shot, injured, stabbed, and fight with blasters and light sabers. There is a character that gets beheaded. An animal is stabbed and killed during a hunting scene. A body is transported and paraded through town. Characters die, and one character appears to be smashed between two large metal doors. These episodes can sometimes be light hearted, but also very intense. Nothing outside of what you would see in the live action shows and movies.

Overall:

First off, this (in my opinion) is the best Star Wars animation we have seen so far. It keeps getting better and better. While, these ‘side stories’ aren’t something necessary to enjoy the other shows and movies, it does give some nice insight into the characters. I found myself enjoying this show more than I thought I would. What’s funny is I enjoyed the Dooku parts more than Ahsoka’s. I didn’t feel we learned much about Ahsoka we didn’t all ready know, but it was neat to see her as a baby. The Dooku episodes give us some nice background on a character that just randomly shows up in the movies. It was interesting to see some of the events that lead Dooku to where he was when we meet him in Attack if the Clones.

I enjoyed this show and it was easy to watch since the episodes were short. If you are a Star Wars fan make sure to check these out. I also like how some minor characters from the movies that we do not know much about got some story here and a few fan favorites show up as well.
