Come on in and sing a spell.”

Dolores is a struggling, down on her luck lounge singer who is looking for love in all the wrong places. Not only is she dating a married man, he is also a killer. Accidentally stumbling upon him having someone shot she is forced to face the truth about her man and run for her life. She runs straight into the arms of the police yelling, “rescue me!” (see what I did there?) In order to stay alive long enough to be a witness in a trial against her former lover she must go into witness protection as a Catholic nun. Will she end up singing “Oh, Happy Day” or will her convent cover not be an “ocean to deep, a mountain so high it can keep…” those after her away?

Themes:Nothing can take me away from my God.”

The mob, Catholicism, witness protection, police, faith, choir, bass, alto, soprano, tenor, singing, change, community, spreading love, God, mass, friendship, faithfulness, accepting when one is wrong, and great music!

Language:This turns into a nun's bar, I'm outta here.”

A*s - 2 D*mn - 4 Hell - 5 Sh*t - 1 (one is almost said and then not)

Stuff to be aware of:

Sexual - Dolores is sleeping with/dating a married man. It is implied that they have had sex, but nothing is seen or necessarily talked about. There are a couple of guys that flirt with some women and they are obviously checking them out. Hookers are mentioned, chastity is briefly mentioned, and a couple of jokes about sex are made (In a convent you “can’t even have sex” and “it’s better than sex.”)

Violence - A man gets shot using a silencer. The gun shot and him dying can be heard, but the dead man is not seen. There is no blood. Two nuns get kidnapped by men with guns. Two men get punched in the groin. A man gets shot in the arm, but no blood is seen.

Other - The beginning of the movie takes place in a casino with gambling and drinking. One scene also takes place in a bar with smoking, drinking, and fighting.

Overall:
We call that an ‘a’ with an attitude.”

A classic movie that has even made its way to Broadway. If you aren’t tapping your feet and have the songs stuck in your head for a week you didn’t watch it right.
