Released on Netflix on Feb 4, 2023

Runtime: 1 Hours 46 Minutes

Rated PG

Based on the children’s book with the same name, a crocodile that sings is adopted by a down on his luck magician. After training Lyle to be a great singer the magician comes to realize that Lyle suffers from immense stage fright and cannot sing in front of people. After losing all he has the magician is forced to sell his home, but leaves Lyle to live there. Eventually, a family moves into the magician’s old home to discover there is a singing crocodile living in their attic.

Themes:

Themes in the show include family, abandonment, stage fright, perusing your dream, magic, performance arts, singing, talent shows, fear, friendship, wild animals, crocodiles, marriage, love, self-confidence, loneliness, anxiety, trying to make it big, fame, forgiveness, and second chances

Language:

I caught someone using the Lord’s name in vein once, and there were possibly a few “gosh” statements. There is a bit of bullying with simple name calling. That’s the worst of it. No curse words.

Stuff to be aware of:

There are a few scenes with people in workout attire, shirtless, and showing mid-drifts. One scene has Lyle in the tub with a shirtless man. It’s a brief scene and not sexual. I assume it is a scene from the old book. At one point a man can be seen sitting on a toilet, but you only see his upper body (nothing is exposed, not even legs). There are a few scenes that have people drinking wine/champaign and one character is asked, “have you been drinking?” His answer is, “yes.” There is also a brief awkward scene in which a husband notices his wife is very happy and he asks her, “is there someone else?” It feels very out of place and has nothing to do with the story. I can proudly say there are not other hints at any martial unfaithfulness in the movie and the parents marriage is not a plot point.

Overall:

This movie was designed for children. The story is a bit quirky, but the moral is good. My children enjoyed it. I laughed a few times. I will say the actor that plays the magician and that character is a lot of fun. I don’t see myself watching this one again, but its a fun movie for a family movie night. I’ll quote my wife on my feelings about it, “it was cute.”
