Jurassic Park 3
A father and son have an unexpected parasailing accident near one of the restricted islands owned by former Jurassic Park owner John Hammond. After they go missing Dr. Alan Grant is persuaded to help track the missing father and son down, except problematically he thinks he is just giving a fly over tour. He has no idea anyone is missing. As usual, things don’t go as planned and people are eaten.
Themes: Dinosaurs (did you expect something different?), raptors, business deals, lies, paleontology, hardware store owners, playing God, t-rex urine, spinosaurus, restricted islands, survival, fossils, the coast, life finds a way…off the island, and second chances.
Language:
Religious Exclamations - 6 Hell - 2 D*mn - 3
I have to say compared to the first two movies this one had much less langauge.
Stuff to be aware of: “We probably won’t get off this island alive.”
Scariness - According to my ten year old daughter, spinosaurus is scarier than t-rex because he has arms and a skinny snout. Spinosaurus snaps a t-rex’s neck. A mostly rotted human skelton falls out of a tree and scares a woman. A raptor’s head is seen in a tube, he is thought dead until he moves. A bunch of baby pterodactyls peck and bite at a person. He is not killed. There is an extended scene in which spinosaurus traps people in a cage underwater and tries to eat them. Raptors surround a group and sniff them.
Violence - A man gets eaten by a spinosaurus and the man’s blood splatters on a plane’s windows. Another man gets slung around by a spinosaurus, then stepped on, and eaten. A raptor uses it claw to stab a man on the ground in the back. A raptor snaps a man’s neck. A man is attacked by pterodactyls in a stream. He goes down stream and some blood is seen in the water. There are less characters in this movie, so there are less deaths.
Other things - A man and a woman change. You see her in her bra and the man bare chested. A man is seen from the backside peeing briefly. He quickly finishes, zips, and turns toward the camera. You don’t see any body parts.
Overall: “Some of the worst things imaginable have been done with the best intentions”
Not as good as the first one (and probably just a cash grab), but I always enjoy this one more than Lost World. I think I liked it better because its really just a simple rescue/survival movie with a small cast. Alan Grant is also one of my favorite characters from the series.
From a “violence” perspective this one seems a bit more tame than the Lost World and far less language than the others. CGI had gotten bit better when they made this one and they use more animatronics like the first movie which could cause younger audiences to be frightened.
