Twilight
Vampires, they aren’t what you think they are. Well, at least some of them, like the Cullens. They don’t kill people, they sparkle in the sunlight, and one of them (Edward) even falls for a human girl, but it’s really hard for him not to suck all of the blood out of her. Based on the hit book series, this was the first movie in the francise. Here is everything you need to know if you want to watch this love story with vampire and werewolves with your family.
Themes:
Small towns, family, friends, fathers, love, vampires, forever, school, Native Americans, crushes, divorce, high school, smells, blood, feeding, history, werewolves, secrets, hidden identity, super powers, lying, protection, home, moving, trackers, and just a small town girl livin' in a lonely world….
Language:
D*mn - Hell - 2 Suck - 1 Religious Exclamations - 3
There are some sexual words/phrases used such and masochism, and “are you being safe?”
Stuff to be aware of:
Sexual - Teens joke about the swim team padding their speedos. Teens discuss other teens that are in a relationship with each other, but are also fostered in the same house. Sex is mentioned a few times when a character reads minds of people in a restaurant.
Two people start heavily kissing. The girl appears to be in her underwear. They quickly stop and talk.
Scary - A guy is chased by some bad vampires. He is knocked on the ground and the scene ends. In another scene two vampires (one has no shirt on) talk about a man as food and kick him down into a boat. Neither of these scenes shows the people dying, but it is implied.
Some guys follow a girl and harass her. They grab her by the arm and she knees one of them in the groin.
One vampire drinks the blood of a guy who is sick to turn him into a vampire to save him. There is a vampire who tries to track down and kill one of the characters (Bella). He messes around with her and throws her around causing her hand to bleed. There is a brief fight scene. The vampire bites her wrist causing her to bleed more. He also breaks her leg. She convulses. A vampire sucks another vampire’s venom out of a human.
Other - A girl almost gets hit by a truck, but is saved by a vampire stopping it. Some vampires are seen standing over a dead deer, there is nothing graphic about the scene. A dead body is on a stretcher in one scene.
There are a few conversations that deal with the idea of killing people and drinking people’s blood. Cans of beer can be seen in multiple scenes.
Overall:
I read the books at the urge of my wife. I did not care for them. I enjoyed the movies better, but the first movie has some bad cinematography and acting. However, you likely already either love this series or hate it. I just wanted to provide this article for those who might consider showing their children/family.
Just remember that vampires don’t go blah blah blah blah.
