Stuff to be aware of: “An outrage!”
There isn’t anything scarier than the first season. There are some more intense and icky moments like in episode five. There is a very brief scene where two girls can be seen getting engaged in episode ten. It is a blink and you’ll miss it moment. More details can be found on these things below.
In episode 1, “The Troll Circle,” there are some trolls that fight. This episode as pretty tame compared to some of season one’s.
In episode 2, “The Draugen,” Hilda and Twig visit the Rat King again. He is in season one which is a bunch of rats with glowing eyes. Woodman gambles again. Draugen are drowned sailors and Hildal visits a ghost ship. The ghosts are similar to the ones is season one (blob looking ghosts with bones in side). Grog is mentioned.
In episode 3, “The Witch,” there is a killer vine and the heroes cut of many of it’s vines. One scene has some spiked with skeletons and them. There are some witches that feed people to “the void.” The void has hands with an eye and mouth with sharp teeth on it.
In episode 4, “The Eternal Warriors,” there is a battle that starts with a man getting his arm chopped off. One person gets chopped in half and at the end of the battle a bunch of human limbs are lying around. There is no blood but the limbs glow an odd color where they have been cut off. The limbs later get put back on the bodies and they come back to life. One person gets shot in the back and another stabbed in the chest. One person gets his head cut off.
In episode 5, “The Windmill,” (spoilers) there is brief scene which is meant to be scary where a Nisse crawls on the ceiling and chases Hilda and David. The Nisse is a zombie and gets his fur ripped off showing a skull underneath.
In episode 6, “The Old Bells of Trolberg,” there is some sneaking around and vandalism for good. Something with glowing eyes wakes up in a cave. That’s about it.
In episode 7, “The Beast of Cauldron Island,” Hilda lies to her mom about where she is going. This isn’t the first time she has done this, but another character tells her, “all this lying is going to catch up with you.” (Mom finds out) There is a skelington of a sea monster with sharp teeth. Another pirate ghost is in this episode. There is a creature that kind of looks like a crab/squid type monster with a bunch of eyes that attacks ships.
In episode 8, “The Fifty Year Night,” there is a scene that takes place in an old timey club in which there is a bar with unmarked bottles. A few characters drink from martini glasses. There is a man that falls in love with a woman, they dance together. There is nothing sexual in these scenes. Several people get eaten by a worm like creature. They are simply swallowed. There is not chewing or blood.
In episode 9, “The Deerfox,” Twig has a nightmare, but it isn’t too intense. There is a ghost (similar to past ones) that steals shoes. A troll is seen in a cave with glowing eyes. There is a wolf with glowing eyes that chases Twig and Hilda and growls.
In episode 10, “The Yule Lads,” starts with a large creature moving about in the shadows. This creature makes another shadowy appearance until showing up at the end. The legend of this creature is told in the episode and it is mentioned that she sniffs out naughty children and turns them into stew. The creature kind of looks like a yeti, but wears a mask with a glowing eye showing out of a crack in the mask. Two girls in a scene embrace and one is looking at a ring on her finger. This seems to suggest that they are in a romantic relationship and one proposed. This scene is very, very brief. The girls just pass in the foreground.
In episode 11, “The Jorts Incident,” the witches are in this episode again. One has some odd painting like a tear running down her eye. Like in the tide mice episode, in the last season, characters eyes go pupiless, glowy, and they drool. These characters act like zombies. There is talk about devouring people’s souls. There is a great ghostbusters vibe to this episode.
In episode 12, “The Replacement,” Elf spears are thrown, and Elf rules are broken. No one is hurt.
In episode 13, “The Stone Forrest,” Hilda and her mother get into an intense fight and Hilda says some pretty mean things. There is a troll that chases Hilda and her mom. There is a man with a creepy bug face. Some trolls fight and get and throw each other around. A bunch of rocks fall on a troll covering him up. A character turns into a troll and since trolls don’t wear clothes, this character doesn’t. But she is like a rock troll, so there are not private area seen.
Overall: “But if diplomacy fails…COMBAT!”
I love how this show throws in characters and creatures from past episodes. It continues to do a great job building on a world so different than any we have seen before. The writers really make me want to be part of the world they have animated. It really is a fun show and is well written.
This season seems a bit tamer than the first as far as scariness goes. My nine year old loved it, and I have to say I really loved it to.
There is one thing I will mention. Hilda sneaks off and lies to her mother multiple times in the series. I do not feel like this is properly dealt with or resolved. Hilda does get grounded and there are discussions between her mom and her about it, however in this parent’s opinion more should have been said about this.
