Reading Audience:

My child’s fourth-grade class read this one.  The chapters are very short, and the book is not very long. Amazon suggests 6-8 years.

Stuff to be aware of:

Grossness - Cow pies and dung are mentioned several times. Roz slips on cow manure and the other characters laugh in the scene.

Language - The word “fool” is used once.

Scariness - A tornado destroys part of the farm the characters live on. During the storm humans, animals, and a robot must run and seek shelter. During the tornado, Roz (the robot) breaks an arm and a leg. These limbs are later repaired or replaced.

Violence/Gore - As with the first book, the theme of death is interwoven into the story. Several dead animals are found throughout the story such as a deer that has been killed by wolves and is covered in claw marks and blood and “limp” birds found in a field.

A wolf pack becomes an enemy to Roz. The wolves try to kill a cow and bite her. Roz scares the wolves off with a rifle. The wolves talk about killing Roz. Roz also gets her leg shot off by a laser.

Other -  A human family prays to God before eating a meal together. This is a very brief scene.

 Overall

As with the first book in this series, it is a simple children’s story, but it is rich with deep concepts that every parent wants their child to learn.  In this book, you’ll find themes of loss, grief, homesickness, responsibility, kindness, and other great morals that are talking points if you decide to read this one with your child. This sequel, in my opinion, is just as amazing as the first book. The rural farm setting allows the reader to learn more about Roz, the world she lives in, and allows her to grow and develop even more as a character. I cannot stress how good this series is, and IT’S CLEAN!

This would be a great one to read out loud with your children or listen to together.
