Endling: The First (2)
An Endling is defined as: (1) the last being of an entire race/species and/or (2) to go on a quest that will likely not end well.
In the final book of the trilogy Byx, Tobble, Khara, Renzo and Gambler continue their search for a rumored colony of Dairne all while a war is brewing between two kingdoms. New foes stand in their way and new companions lend a hand.
Reading Audience:
This book series is advertised for middle school aged readers, however adults will enjoy it just as much, if not more. I’ll cover fighting, death, and other things to be aware of in the next section, but it does have some very intense parts that may scare some readers.
Stuff to be aware of:
There is no cursing or sexual content in this story. There are some intense fight scenes and some characters die suddenly and even in unexpected ways. There is a scene that involves slavery and some humans and other species being sold. There are some animals that get hurt and/or die. There are some creatures/governing species that when described that would be very startling/scary to behold. Besides intense fighting and some death, this book is very clean.
Overall:
If you are looking for an entertaining fantasy series you should check this one out. Like the first book, I could not put this one down (or stop listening, since I used Audible). All my favorites returned (and some not so favorites) and continue to grow and have interesting adventures that rely on them to use their strengths and work as a team. Applegate weaves another exciting adventure that is as good (if not better) than the first book. One of my favorite parts of her books is that they are clean. She also weaves in some great themes of never underestimating people, treating others with respect, not judging a person by their appearance, love that is sacrificial, and not giving up.
