Reading Audience:

Middle School, possibly upper Elementary school.  I read this aloud with my nine and eleven year old. They enjoyed it.  Amazon has posted ages 8-11.

Stuff to be aware of:

This is a graphic novel so everything is not only read, it is also seen in photos.  If you read the first two you won’t find anything more intense in this one. There is plenty of fighting and explosions.  The elves have pointy teeth and their pupils are like vertical slits. This is the same way they are in previous books. There is still the inner, dark voice Emil hears because she wears the pendant.

No cursing or sexual stuff.  The word “heck” is used in exclamations.

Overall:

This book continues to tell a great overarching story. Every decision the characters make and where the story goes is very natural and makes sense. The themes of family and teamwork are two aspects that continue to shine through in the story and make for good talking points with kids.

I continue to believe this is a great book to introduce your children to the comic book style of graphic novels. The world and characters seem fresh and new which makes for a fun and memorable story.
